[ CONTEXT ]

There are about 150,000 foreign-trained nurses on the UK nursing council register. The proportion of foreign-trained nurses in the UK is about 15%. NHS wants to increase the number of nurses by 50,000 (full-time equivalent) by the end of 2023/24. This is a loose, top-down but tightly time-constrained political target.

[ PROBLEM ]

The potential reduction in the influx of international nurses poses a severe threat to the NHS, as they currently account for over 25% of the nursing workforce. With staffing already critically low, any disruption to this pipeline could exacerbate shortages, leading to increased burnout, compromised care quality, and a potential system-wide crisis. Tackling this deep-rooted issue arising from staff shortages is crucial to prevent further fragmentation and ensure a sustainable healthcare system.

[ SOLUTION ]

Optival is a SaaS solution bridging the gap between NHS trusts and international nurses. It aligns nurses with NHS values through features that include, value teaching, feedback collection, mentor support, mental health affirmations and chatbot access to NHS resources. It helps NHS trusts manage workforce better by analysing value alignment and addressing conflicts
